Our Mission

As local farmers with a deep-rooted farming heritage, we take great pride in transparently raising livestock in the beautiful Garden State of New Jersey.

At our farm, we embrace challenges because we believe that nothing worth doing is easy.

We value hard work, dedication, and a commitment to nurturing our land and livestock without taking shortcuts.

Our belief is that healthy animals thrive in spacious, lush grass fields with ample sunshine, eliminating the need for any hormones or antibiotics.

We are thrilled to share both good food and good stories with you.

Why The Farmers Market

We are committed to providing you with the healthiest chicken possible. We ensure responsible care for our animals and land from start to finish. Our Cornish Cross chickens roam on lush green pastures specially planted to nourish their well-being. They enjoy fresh air, sunshine, and the ability to forage and scratch mother earth, just like happy, healthy chickens should.

Our chicken is never treated with antibiotics or hormones. From day one, the chickens have the freedom to choose locally sourced, non-GMO feed and fresh, clean water. At around 2 weeks old, they are moved to pasture where they continue to grow, with plenty of space to roam, forage on grass, bugs, and legumes.

We raise our animals with the same love and care we would give to our own family. That's why it's important to us that you know the true story behind every piece of meat you get from us. You deserve to know where and how your food is sourced and you should be able to trust your farmer. We maintain complete transparency by sharing our story, daily farming practices, and methods through social media, our website, and direct communication with our customers.

General FAQ's

Why are you called "The Farmers Market"?

The name "The Farmers Market" holds significant meaning for us as it reflects our deep-rooted family ties to agriculture. Our family's farming legacy traces back to 1905 when Hillary's husband's family settled on the Homestead farm in South Jersey. Similarly, Hillary's own family started farming in Central Jersey in the mid-1940s. Both families have continued farming, forging their unique paths while honoring their farming heritage. Choosing "The Farmers Market" as our name felt like the perfect tribute to both our family's farming legacy.

Where is your farm market located?

Visit our farm market in Mt. Royal, New Jersey, located on Mantua Road. Here, you'll find our animal farm with a wide variety of farm animals to visit during operating hours. The Homestead, our original farm, is located in Mantua, New Jersey, where we grow our produce. Our pasture raised chicken comes from a third farm of 25-plus acre in Mantua as well. Overall, we raise all our pasture raised chicken and produce on approximately 200 acres throughout Mantua.

Why does your chicken taste so good?

We take pride in our commitment in producing high-quality meat chickens from start to finish. Initially, our desire to raise meat chickens was for our family's consumption. To ensure we raised healthy and happy chickens, we conducted extensive research and invested years of our free time preparing our farm. For tasks we couldn't do ourselves, we carefully selected private contractors, prioritizing personal connections with local family businesses. We source our chicks from a local family hatchery, our non-GMO feed from a family mill in Pennsylvania, and process our chickens at a USDA approved local family poultry facility in New Jersey. By investing extra care, attention, and resources, we deliver better products for our family and yours.

Animal FAQ's

Is our chicken organic

While we are not certified organic, we are committed to producing and practicing with 100% natural methods. We prioritize raising the best products for our own children and sharing them with our customers.

We believe that establishing a personal connection and trust with the family behind the meat is more meaningful than relying solely on a certification sticker. Therefore, we do not see the need for the red tape and additional costs associated with certification.

Are you GMO-free?

Yes, all of our livestock feed on the farm is 100% GMO-free.

Is your meat hormone free?

Yes, our meat is 100% free of any kind of growth hormones or any added hormones.

Has your meat been treated with antibiotics?

Never. The meat we sell through The Farmers Market brand is always 100% antibiotic free from day one.

Harvesting FAQ's

Do you harvest humanely?

Absolutely. We are deeply committed to ensuring that every step of raising and harvesting our animals is carried out with care and consideration for their well-being. Our animals are processed under USDA inspection at a local, family-owned poultry facility. We prioritize minimizing stress for the animals and ensuring they are slaughtering humanely. This not only aligns with our values, but it also has a positive impact on the quality of the meat. We believe in consistently upholding humane practices in every instance of harvest.

How are animals handled during processing?

At The Farmers Market, we prioritize the humane and ethical treatment of our animals throughout their lives. This commitment extends to our harvesting process, where we strive to minimize stress and ensure thoughtful and humane practices. Our process is closely monitored and supervised by the USDA to ensure exceptional care and quality.

Are all your chickens born on your farm?

We use a local, small family-owned hatchery for all our chicks that is just a short drive into Pennsylvania from our farm. Within a day of hatching we have our chicks on the farm and in their borders.

At this time we do not ship. We offer local pick up 7 days a week at our farm market 8am-6pm during our season (May-Decemeber). Off season TBD. Please check our website and social media for pick up time during off season.

Is there shipping insurance available?

We will offer insurance once we are able to start shipping.

Where do you ship your meat?

Our goal is to offer shipping to the lower 48. Please keep checking back to see when we will start offering this. Until then we are a local pick up online at our roadside market.

Thank you for understanding that because we want to ensure that we grow the right way the first time, these things take time.
